The Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim has announced plans to make Malaysia one of the world’s top 30 countries in his Ekonomi Madani, which will have the following objectives:
- Top 30 biggest economies in the world in terms of nominal gross domestic products. Malaysia currently ranks 35.
- Top 12 in IMD World Competitive Index. The current rank is 27.
- Top 25 in the UN Human Development Index. Current rank is 62.
- Top 25 in the Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI). Current rank is 61.
I call on the voters of the six states who will go to the polls on August 12 to give full support to Anwar Ibrahim in his plans for Malaysia to rise again and become a great world-class nation.
In fact, I call on the voters of the six states to campaign for Malaysia rise again and become a great world-class nation so that our children and children’s children do not have to emigrate all over the world in the second Malaysian Diaspora to make other nations, like Singapore, great. Malaysians should be able to stay behind in Malaysia to make Malaysia a great world-class nation!
But there are two important prerequisites for Malaysia to rise again to become a great world-class nation which have been astutely pointed out by the Yang di Pertuan Agong and the various Sultans – the need for political stability and national unity among Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region.
It is a good sign that in the eights months of the Anwar unity government, we have a return of confidence of foreign investors and the various economic problems of the people are being tackled.
We need full five years with political stability and unity of Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or region, for Malaysia to rise up again to become a great world-class nation.
This is what the six state polls on August 12 can achieve.
Malaysia cannot rise again and be a great world-class power if it follows the examples of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. Malaysia must follow the examples of Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan.
Penang for instance has a GDP per capita which is four times that of Kelantan.
Do we want Malaysia to regress to the level of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah or the whole country to be uplifted to the level of Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan?
The answer is obvious.
This is why the six state polls on August 12 are so important, for a strong showing by the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional unity coalition in Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will show that Malaysia can rise up again and become a great world-class nation, instead of continuing in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) trajectory to end up as a divided, failed and corrupt state like Sri Lanka.
This is why on August 12, we want to achieve three objectives; firstly, to elect Yew Jia Haur as Selangor State Assemblyman for Teratai; secondly, ensure that Amirudn Shari can lead as Selangor Mentri Besar of a Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional state government for the next five years; and thirdly, the Malaysia can rise up again and be a great world-class nation.
