PM Anwar Ibrahim has expressed the expectation that the ministers should demonstrate increased focus, purpose, and swiftness in their roles to fulfill the future wishes and ambitions of Malaysians.

“There is no honeymoon period for any member of the Cabinet,” he said in a Facebook post after chairing the new Cabinet’s first meeting.

“Instead, I demand that this government be swift in resolving the people’s problems, put an end to hardcore poverty, spur economic growth and ensure national prosperity.

During the meeting, Anwar said he emphasised on the new scope of duties for the relevant ministries, while welcoming the latest members of his government.

“At the meeting, we also conveyed our gratitude to the former human resources minister V Sivakumar for his contributions.”

In reshuffling his Cabinet, Anwar announced the appointments of second finance minister Amir Hamzah Azizan, digital minister Gobind Singh Deo, plantation and commodities minister Johari Ghani, health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad and human resources minister Steven Sim.

The shake-up also saw some changes in portfolios and the splitting of the communications and digital as well as natural resources, environment and climate change ministries.
