The mediocre teacher tells
The good teacher explains
The superior teacher demonstrates
The great teacher inspires.
– William Arthur Ward
No one in life makes a greater impact on you than your teachers. From the moment when you first walk into school, they are your anchors for knowledge and inquiry. Teachers do not only teach you numbers and alphabets, but they also teach you values, discipline and principles in life you will carry into adulthood. It is with these reasons why it is so important to celebrate and commemorate their sacrifice on this Teacher’s Day.
Tributes have also poured in from DAP representatives on their social media accounts. Some have uploaded posters with “Happy Teacher’s Day” plastered across while some made a more personal note thanking their teachers for their hard work.
For example, Dr. Kelvin Yii, MP for Bandar Kuching wrote about the late Mr. Richard Meijin who was his Art teacher and also ISCF advisor. He went on to say that he was “a naughty student who got into quite a number of trouble” but Mr. Richard believed in him and he would not be where he is today if not for teachers like him.
Vivian Wong, MP for Sandakan also paid tribute to her old school teacher, Mr. Patrick Lim who is now retired. He was an English teacher in SM Sung Siew. She also thanked him and all teachers for their dedication, commitment and patience in educating the young.
Wong Kah Woh also posted on social media his wish on this special day. Accompanying his post were pictures of him visiting various schools during his trips as the Deputy Minister of Education.
We owe a lot to teachers. Some may say it is a thankless job but how rewarding would it be to transform and inspire lives at a young age. Happy Teacher’s Day to all teachers. May you continue to be the wind beneath children’s wings.
