Deliberate Misrepresentation of YB Steven Sim’ Speech by MCA

It seems that MCA Youth either have a comprehension and understanding problem or they deliberately  try to politicise, spin and taking out of context the recent statement by the Minister of Human Resources YB Steven Sim Chee Keong at the recent “Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin held at Stadium Axiata, Bkt Jalil last night.

In the whole speech, the Minister called for peace in Palestine and freedom for the Palestinian people as it is not a conflict of religion or even ideology, but of humanity, compassion and justice.

This is global solidarity call, where different countries around the world are calling for peace and justice for the Palestinian people,  including China who is playing a major peacemaker role in this Middle East conflict including mediating the signing of the “Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity” among 14 Palestinian factions recently in Beijing.

The Minister then spoke in context of Nelson Mandela, where Mandela himself spoke the words ” But we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of Palestinians; without the resolution of conflicts in East Timor, the Sudan and other parts od the world”

This speech was given by Mandela in 1997 during the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people held in South Africa. In making that call, Mandela didn’t mean that the freedom and independence of South Africa was not achieved, but how could they claim freedom when there are brothers in the global community that are facing atrocities, war and genocide.

It was in that very context that YB Steven Sim rallied our country to stand in solidarity with the cause of humanity as it is not just about the death of one man, but the loss

of more 39,000 lives, and thousands even before than, many of them innocent woman, children.

So it saddening that in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, all MCA is concern about is to play politics for their own self interest and try to mislead the people on the actual context of the speech.

If even in the midst of genocide and humanitarian crisis, this is all they think about, it then speaks volume of the youth and future leaders of MCA.

We may have differences of opinions, and we respect that, but this is not the moment to play politics, seek cheap publicity as in such a crisis our collective power lies in global unity. It is together, we can make a difference and amplify the cries for freedom and peace for all.
