On the evening of August 20th, I, along with Puan Wan Zurliana from DBKL Seputeh, met with the Taman Desa Residents’ Association (TDRA) and local residents to discuss various issues in Taman Desa. Chief among their concerns was the newly approved high-density development project by Mah Sing Group, which includes luxurious condominiums and Madani housing.

Residents expressed significant worries about road conditions, traffic congestion, and the state of the flood retention pond. They highlighted that the pond, designed to manage floodwater from the Smart Tunnel, has not been properly maintained. Despite promises of a recreational park surrounding the pond when the Smart Tunnel was proposed twenty years ago, this promise remains unfulfilled. One resident noted that recent severe flooding has rendered the pond inadequate.

I conveyed my position against such high-density projects and clarified that I was not involved in the approval process, learning about it only through the media.

Some residents were skeptical of my statement, feeling that as a government official, I should be held accountable for the project. I understand their frustration and do not blame them for their concerns. I appreciated their willingness to meet despite the heavy rain.

I assured them that I would take action, including contacting the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to address the issues with the flood retention pond and working with the developer and DBKL to improve infrastructure and traffic flow in Taman Desa.

The meeting, which began at 8 pm, concluded at 10:30 pm.
