In GE15, all three coalitions – Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, and Perikatan Nasional – did not have the majority to form a government.
Guided by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional came together to form the Unity Government.
The Unity Government has held together for more than 22 months. We govern together, we win some elections together, and we want to build the nation for the next generation.
To guarantee stability for Malaysia’s second takeoff and to secure the future of Malaysia, the Unity Government will need to contest GE16 together. We need to shape a one-to-one contest in GE16.
Johor is the most important battleground. Johor has 26 parliamentary seats, making it the state with the most number of seats in the peninsula.
PH and BN combined have 24 out of these 26 seats, which forms the basis for federal power.
The Mahkota by-election is therefore very crucial. It is the precursor to GE16. We need to ensure that PH and BN can govern together and win elections together. This is why PH and BN need to ensure that one-to-one battle against the opposition is the right formula.
