PMX – a man of the people

Those of us who have been lucky enough to step foot into the Parliament building will know what the vibe is like inside. Within those hallowed halls are great responsibility, nobility and the firm commitment to the people the building serves. Those of us will also know how serious the environment can be. Staffers dressed in crisp suits, thick bundles of paper containing replies and recommendations, and the hurried footsteps of leaders rushing for a vote. Tension can reverberate through the halls on any given day.

However, the intensity can be cut through when at times parliament opens its doors to a flurry of visitors.

Recently, the Parliament building witnessed the visit of delegates from SK Selama from Kedah. They were seen walking the hallways directly outside of the Dewan Rakyat when as luck would have it, our revered PMX was also on his way walking into the Dewan. The PM coincidentally met the group in the middle and stopped to chat. When he found out that they were from Kedah, he immediately eased into his Utara dialect, befitting for someone who hails from Penang.

He also took the opportunity to ask about their school – perhaps if there were any issues he could look into. One of the school kids jokingly replied that the school had no gym! To which the PM snickered joyously.

How amazing is it to witness kids having a casual conversation with the highest leader in the administration. This also demonstrates the charisma he has with whoever he meets. Those that meet him, either rich or poor, young or old are all treated equally with the same dignity and respect.

After taking pictures with the group, PM was seen talking to a teacher accompanying the group. Perhaps this is an opportunity to ask questions or exchange information from one civil servant to another.

Full video of the encounter can be seen here .
