I urge Kepala Batas Member of Parliament (MP) Dr.. Siti Mastura Muhammad to refrain from following in the footsteps of Perak PAS Commissioner Razman Zakaria in becoming a “serial slanderer.”
Razman, who is also the Gunung Semanggol State Assemblyman, has a record of losing three defamation suits previously to former Perak Chief Minister Nizar Jamaluddin, DAP National Chairperson Lim Guan Eng, and Prime Minister Datoโ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. As recent as 4 December 2024, he was referred to the Perak State Assembly’s Rights and Privilege Committee over alleged slander and racially charged remarks during Mondayโs debate.
To avoid the same fate, I advise Dr. Mastura to continue practicing what she recently said, which is to carefully verify facts before speaking. While commenting on the court’s decision to pay RM750,000 to three DAP leaders, she stated that she would “study the full judgment first before making any decisions”. For context, Dr. Mastura was ordered to pay RM300,000 to Lim Kit Siang, RM250,000 to Lim Guan Eng, and RM200,000 to Teresa Kok after losing a defamation lawsuit filed against her.
As a young leader who is also heading the PAS Muslimat Lajnah Perpaduan Nasional (National Unity Bureau), Dr. Mastura should set an example for the public by leading efforts to combat fake news, rather than being an enabler for spreading slander.
