On 16 June 22, Puan Norainie Roslan was appointed as the President of Kuala Selangor District Council (MDKS) effective 1 July.
Noraini is the first woman to helm the position of local council chief in Selangor. This is part of the Pakatan Rakyat’s ongoing efforts and commitment to uphold gender equality and women empowerment in the state.
Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim says “Noraini’s appointment was based on her 21 years experience as a director of planning in Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) as well as her educational background. We believe with her experience she will perform her duties well.
“We feel proud that we have appointed a first council chief in Selangor; it is our policy that women should always be given equal opportunity based on their abilities and qualifications,” he added.
Noraini obtained her master’s degree in planning from North Carolina University (US) in 1988. She had graduated from the East Carolina University (US) with bachelor’s degree in the same field.
Noraini was attached to BERNAS before joining MPK as a planning director. She was transferred to MBPJ in 2010. For her achievements, she was awarded the best service award twice, in 2005 and 2008 respectively. She is also a member of Malaysian Institute of Planning.
