I strongly condemn the recent actions and statements made by Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary, Member of Parliament for Pengkalan Chepa, during the Dewan Rakyat session on 19th February 2025. His remarks regarding the proposed Anti-Racial Discrimination Act were not only irresponsible but also dangerously inflammatory.
By suggesting that such legislation could serve as a “backdoor” for the abolition of Bumiputera rights and privileges, and by invoking the spectre of racial riots, Datuk Ahmad Marzuk has recklessly attempted to incite racial sentiments. Such rhetoric has no place in our Parliament, an institution that should serve as a beacon of unity, progress, and constructive dialogue.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has explicitly urged Members of Parliament to rise above petty politics and prioritize national unity. It is deeply regrettable that Datuk Ahmad Marzuk has chosen to disregard this royal advice, opting instead to sow division and fear. This is a blatant disregard for the sanctity of the Dewan Rakyat and the trust placed in us as representatives of the people.
As lawmakers, our duty is to foster harmony, promote solidarity, and address the challenges facing our nation with wisdom and responsibility. Datuk Ahmad Marzuk’s actions stand in stark contrast to these principles. His comments not only undermine the spirit of unity but also risk eroding public confidence in our democratic institutions.
Such attempts to incite racial tensions must be addressed with the seriousness they deserve. We cannot allow the hallowed halls of Parliament to be misused for divisive and destructive purposes.
I call on all Members of Parliament, regardless of political affiliation, to heed His Majesty’s wise counsel and focus on debates and policies that genuinely contribute to the betterment of our nation. Let us work together to build a Malaysia that is united, inclusive, and resilient against the forces of division.
Thank you.
