Storyteller, cartoonist, illustrator and artist in his own right, Mohd Azmi bin Mohd Hussin passed away last Wednesday in Penang.
The Bagan-born multihyphenate was born on 13th September 1984 and had dedicated his life to the arts, adorning Penang’s landscape beautifully with his craft.
Buletin Mutiara reads “Over the years, Azmi’s dedication to his craft earned him three Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) achievements: The Most Number of Live Caricatures in 24 Hours (2017), The Longest Coffee Painting in Malaysia (2019), and The Longest Single Comic Strip Produced in Malaysia (2021). His first two records also made their way into the Asia Book of Records, a testament to his exceptional talent and perseverance.”
Leaders of the DAP, particularly in Penang came out in droves dedicating tributes to his legacy.
National Chairman, Sdr Lim Guan Eng shared a Facebook post as tribute to the late Azmi and grieves along with the family.
Assistant International Secretary, Sdri Kasthuri Patto also shared her condolences and remembers his “warm smiley face, quick with grin and kind”
Assemblyperson for Paya Terubong and EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy, Sdr Wong Hon Wai yesterday shared a portrait by the late Azmi Hussin. As you can see the AH signature in the portrait. A signature on all his artwork. Sdr Wong also laments that this could be the last few artwork done by Azmi.
Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera, Sdri Syerleena Abd Rashid expressed shock and sadness in her post after receiving news of his untimely death. She also shares a video of Azmi creating a mural on the walls of Dewan MPKK Island Park that “captured the resilience and unity of our community” during the Covid-19 pandemic.
