PAS leaders are narrow minded and lack prioritising laws and policies objectively for the larger benefit of the people.
Regarding the recent decision by Kedah PAS to support the Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor’s ban on 4D and gaming outlets throughout the state, it is crucial to differentiate between legal and illegal gambling. While I recognize the concerns raised about gambling addiction and its negative effects, it is essential to uphold the constitutional rights of businesses operating within the legal framework.
The recent Kangar High Court decision ruled that the Kedah government’s decision to stop issuing and renewing business premises licenses violated the Federal Constitution especially Article 73,74,75 and 80(1) of the constitution. This proves that PAS leaders refused to acknowledge the fundamentals this country is built on. These safeguards in the constitution allows for the Federation to protect the overall interests of the economic sector of the country and this is the vision of our forefathers.
Legal gambling is a regulated industry that contributes significantly to the economy through taxes and job creation. These businesses operate under strict guidelines and oversight, ensuring that the interests of the public are safeguarded. It is the illegal gambling operations that we must target, as they operate outside the law, evade taxes, and exploit vulnerable individuals without any accountability.
The recent ruling by the Alor Setar High Court, which deemed the state government’s ban unconstitutional, underscores the importance of adhering to the rule of law. Banning legal gaming outlets not only undermines constitutional principles but also drives gambling underground, exacerbating the very issues we aim to mitigate.
We must focus our efforts on eradicating illegal gambling activities and enforcing existing regulations rather than penalizing law-abiding businesses. The state government’s decision to ban legal gaming outlets is a misguided approach that fails to address the root of the problem. Instead, it punishes legitimate operators and ignores the detrimental effects of unregulated gambling.
I urge the state government and Kedah PAS to reconsider their stance and work towards a solution that balances moral concerns with constitutional rights. Let us channel our resources into combating illegal gambling and supporting responsible gambling initiatives. It is through targeted action against unlawful activities, rather than broad and unconstitutional bans, that we can genuinely protect our communities.
